Leon McFarlane

It started with a 500km walk across Uganda

After a series of personal challenges, I found myself rebuilding my life from the ground up.

During that process, a friend invited me on a 500km charity walk across Uganda. What began as a physical challenge became something much deeper.

Moving slowly through communities, witnessing extraordinary generosity, and focusing on daily acts of kindness gave me a renewed sense of purpose.

Wandering Through Mankind is the continuation of that journey.

Every act, logged

Where your money goes

Support here does two things. It keeps Leon walking, covering visas, food, kit and the occasional bed for the night. And it pays for an act of kindness in every place he passes through.

Every one of those acts is recorded below with the date, the place and what it cost, so you can see exactly what your money did. The ledger covers the kindness spending, not the cost of the walk itself.

What this is

This is not a registered charity and it does not claim to be. It is one man walking, funded by the people who want to see him do it. Contributions are not tax deductible and carry no Gift Aid. If you would rather give to a registered charity, please do, and Leon would still love you to follow the walk.

What I hope to learn

Not a search for answers

Along the route I hope to learn from people of different cultures, faiths and backgrounds, exploring the histories, traditions and values that shape their lives.

Rather than relying on assumptions or second hand opinions, I want to experience the world slowly enough to understand it through the people who call it home.

The goal is not to return with certainty. The goal is to return with better questions.
